Nokia Phone Battery Removal

Nokia 6230i. Loss of time and date settings after battery removal.?

When I first got my Nokia 6230i, nearly 2 years ago, something I liked about it was that when I removed the battery and reinserted it the time and date settings were still retained. This was different from previous mobile phones I had owned. However, there came a point in 2006 when my Nokia changed its mind!! It decided that, from now on, when the battery is taken out it will forget the time and date settings, like all of my previous phones have done. I have asked many many “experts” why this happened; technical people at the Carphone Warehouse, T-mobile (whom I have the contract with), and Nokia. Nobody can tell me why this happened. The normal reaction was a disbelief that the time and date settings had ever been “remembered” by the phone after the battery had been removed. However, this really was the case and now the phone loses its memory. Can anybody explain this?? Also, is there any way I can restore the phone to its previous ability to remember time and date settings? Thanks.

The Nokia Range of phones have a Small internal battery on the mainboard of the phone – this is the battery that keeps the clock going when the battery is removed as you mentioned.

Unfortunately it sounds like yours has gone and is no longer backing up the clock when you remove yoru battery – these batterys are no replaceable as they are soldered to the board and unfortunately I would say that not the answer you want but you would be best to live with this, there are no settings on teh phone. Don’t let it put you off the phone or Nokias they are fantastic and the 6230i is a very good phone.
