nokia 6680?

my 6680 phone has all of a sudden displayed the headset icon on screen although i dont have the headphones connected.This is preventing me from making/receiving any calls unless using the headset.Anyone else had the same problem and can it be rectified cheaply.
please help thanks

is there any gunk on the bottom connector? The reason I ask this is because the phone recognises the headset by a linking of 2 pins. What happens if you add then remove the headset? Finally, if all else fails remove the battery breifly and try again.
