avi to mp4 decoding..?? why do some work…some don’t..??

Hi there..
I have been downloading some stuff off the net in AVI format, then decoding them with Mediacoder..
I use this to put films etc onto my Nokia N95..so i can watch them on the go
in most cases the files work fine…but some just dont (the phone comes back with an error message)
all the files even the ones that dont play on my phone work perfectly well on playback on my computer..!!

is there something in the coding of the original AVI that i need to look for..or maybe decode the mp4 a different way..
the last lot of files from decoding to actually getting on my phone took a few hours…so wasted time..!!
