I have a Nokia N95 8GB mobile (cell) phone, it is an english version which is unlocked and is meant to be able to take any SIM card, i am wanting to send this as a present to a friend in the USA, will it work with US carriers and SIM cards, basically will it work in the US

yes, it will definitely work. since it has WCDMA 850 / WCDMA 1900 (US bands) WCMDA 2100 (euro-asia). it also has GSM/quadband, meaning it automatically change mode/bands when needed.
